Halloween '09

Happy Monday ~ Hope your weekend/Halloween was fun!

Mine was spent with the nieces ~ My sister-in-law brought them over Saturday night so that they could go trick-or-treating in our neighborhood. I have not been trick-or-treating in years, so I had a blast! Kathryn is still a bit young to fully enjoy it, and Ellie really could have cared less, but we had a great time anyway!  Miss K had a ballerina costume, but she looked so cute in her black cat Halloween t-shirt, and she really doesn't even get the dressing up thing yet anyway, we decided just to keep her in that. Miss E wore Kathryn's ladybug costume from last year and looked SO adorable. Check out those cheeks...

Kathryn wasn't quite sure what to do with all that candy ( thank goodness! ) and was more into her glow in the dark bracelets... I think she had 4 on by the end of the night, though they had disappeared by the time this picture got taken.

 

One of the neighbors went all out this year giving out popcorn bags, cotton candy, fun trinkets and cute little treat bags. Auntie Ashley helped to eat the cotton candy... Hey,Kathryn much preferred the suckers anyway! 

I have to say, it seemed like there were a lot more kids out this year than in the last few years.  With all the festivals, carnivals and parties that go on, not to mention general safety concerns, it seems like plain 'ol trick-or-treating is becoming a thing of the past.  It was fun to see the streets full again and we actually almost ran out of candy.  Almost. Several of our neighbors did, and early in the evening, too. Of course it doesn't help that a few groups of older kids kept coming back, or sending their friends up to the door... That was a little annoying.

Anyway, October is over and my mind is already on Thanksgiving unfortunately! :)  And speaking of,  I do have a pinnie just for the occasion and will try to have it up here in a few days. It's completely ready to ship and the price will be lower than usual, so be sure to snap one up because once they're gone, there won't be any more!!

I'll also be re-posting tomorrow with the few fabric remnants still available as well as a couple more added in that I found this weekend in case you missed out on the original posts.

Happy Halloween!

And, in case you need something sweet to eat, I tried this pie the other night and loved it!  It's fast, easy and takes just a few ingredients.  I'm sorry I don't have a photo, but it didn't last long enough for me to get one!! ;)

Decadent Truffle Bottom Chocolate Cream Pie

• 1 frozen deep dish pie crust ( for those of you like me who are too busy right now to make your own! )
• 2 cups miniature marshmallows or 20 large marshmallows
• 1/2 cup milk
• 2 cups ( 12 oz pkg ) Hershey's Special Dark chocolate chips
• 1 cup ( 1/2 pint ) Heavy whipping cream
• sweetened whipped cream, or whipped topping  ( optional )
• chocolate curls ( optional )

1. Prepare and bake pie crust in a 9" pie plate as directed on package for unfilled 1-crust pie
2. place marshmallows and milk in double-boiler, stirring until marshmallows are melted and mixture is smooth
3. Add chocolate chips, stir until melted and mixture is smooth
4. Spread 1 cup chocolate mixture over bottom of crust, refrigerate
5. Beat whipping cream until stiff. Gradually blend into remaining chocolate mixture, combining thoroughly. Spread over chocolate layer in pastry crust.
6. Cover and refrigerate 4-6 hours or until well chilled. Garnish with sweetened whipped cream and chocolate curls if desired.

Okay, for those of you who don't want to wait and see if you win it, and because time is running out to get a lot of wear out of this style (tomorrow is October 1st!!!), I am putting RAVEN on sale. Also, this is really the last week to get one and have it shipped in time to again, get some good use out of it, since I am leaving town again the first of next week.  So here's the deal ~ I can take up to 5 orders ( if placed by Friday, 10/2 )  that WILL ship the 5th, before I go.
