I only got three this trip.  Why three and not four?  I have NO idea...

I'm just random like that sometimes. 

I should have gotten four.  But then again, probably not.

 

 

This one is strawberry with buttercream frosting ( a mountain of it, I might add! ) topped with chocolate ganache.  Heavenly.

Love the box they come in, too - I'm such a sucker for packaging!!

 Sprinkles is still my fav, but I have to say, these run a pretty close second.

 

Oh, and you wanna know some good news about GiGi's?

Like Sprinkles, it is a chain ( franchise actually ), so chances are there could be one in YOUR neighboorhood! :)

This was my first successful fit with the tie-back dress pattern, which I was SO happy about. We had a some-what tight time frame, and I really didn't need to have to re-make it!!
When she told me she wanted a cupcake fabric in keeping with the theme, you know I was ALL over that!

Ever since I had one the other day at the bakery I mentioned, I've had a taste for more.  I also found out that these babies are fast becoming the new "cupcake" and there are SO many yummy-sounding versions ( like pumkin! )...

A new find

I am sure you are getting really, really sick and tired of seeing me post about cupcakes. But I just HAVE to share about a brand new bakery I discovered yesterday here in Dallas~




Notice the "Addiction Hotline"? Love it.

They are actually a full bakery, not just limited to cupcakes ( though their double-chocolate one almost rivals Sprinkles ), and I must say that the Whoopie Pie was to die for.  Actually, everything in there looked absolutely scrumptious,  but I had restrain myself.  Next time I'll try a cookie and a lemon bar ( I have a huge weakness for good lemon bars, too! ).  Or maybe another cupcake flavor.  Or a cake ball.  Or a brownie.  It's a wonder I don't weigh 300 lbs!  Seriously.  I am not skinny by any stretch of the imagination, but just average sized and I like it that way ( being tall and exercising several times a week helps, LOL )!  Life's waaaay too short not to enjoy good food every now and then! ;)

Okay, one more cupcake related item and then I'll give you a break from this subject for awhile...

Hey, we're supposes to get a cool front this weekend - Instead of 100-103 degrees,  it may only be in the 90's Saturday & Sunday. Oh boy. It's still hot...

 Oh, and I found out about a new cupcake place opening here soon. It's a cupcake bar where you build your own. Should be interesting! I'll definitely be checking it out. Not sure it will top Sprinkles or Hey Cupcake, but ya never know... Here's a little hint for you, by the way - The giveaway has to do with that favorite little thing of mine. *wink*

Cupcakes & Anniversaries

Coconut Cupcakes with Lime Buttercream frosting~





This recipe is in the current Cooking Light (May 2009) magazine, so not only did they turn out pretty good but they are healthier, too! Okay, maybe not healthier, but at least low enough in fat to make you feel not quite so guilty... ;) Anyway, if you like coconut, I highly recommend trying these out.  I am not a huge fan of it, but the flavor is very, very subtle. Also, the recipe calls for potato starch, which is a little unusual, but provided a moist, light texture just as they said it would. I think I am going to do a little research and see if I can figure out how to incorporate it into other cupcake recipes.

Anyway, on to other things and I'll try not to mention cupcakes again for awhile...

I am thinking of opening the shop back up in the next day or two, but may wait until Friday. Things have been kind of quiet with nothing for sale and I have to say that it's been nice. :)

BTW, we just reached the 2-year mark this month as far as our first pinafore sale goes. I registered on Etsy in September 2006, mostly to buy. :) Then I decided to try selling a few things here and there, but did not get serious until I started making the pinnies. Within three months of that first sale, I quit my job to go full-time with LG and never looked back.  Well, not too much... *wink*

Just for fun, I went back in my transaction history to see exactly when the first pinafore sold and which one it was. Don't laugh at me... I really could not remember! I only knew that it was sometime in April or May of '07...

  This TWEET pinnie was the very first one to sell in the Lassie Girl shop on May 1, 2007.  Incidentally, that became one of our most popular styles and between all three colorways, I think I went through approx 75 yards of that fabric!

TGIF + Big Sale Starting Today!

Happy Friday & Happy May!

Starting today ALL items in the shop marked "sale" or "clearance" are $15. There really is only a limited amount available, so if you like it, grab it. Sometime this afternoon/evening, I will be listing several ready-to-ship items in a variety of sizes, also $15. As I mentioned earlier this week, some are exchanges that were made and some are just extra samples we have in stock. All need to go because I am running out of space!! I have the new dresses coming soon, as well as a few new pinnies, and am trying to simplify the shop by not having quite so many items to page through. So, all fabrics that are becoming hard to reorder, or are no longer available, are being discontinued.

Also, the Bits & Pieces  scrap bags are $5. There are 6 available. I am overflowing and need to clear some of those out as well! Oh, and as a little side note, you may notice that the shipping price for those has gone up a bit. I am very sorry about that, but that last postage increase was just too much to absorb.  :(  I try to pack the box as full as possible, but it does make it heavy, which is just not cheap to ship! Gotta love USPS...

Oh, Cupcake!

I am a cupcake addict. I am not sure which wins out - my addiction to fabric, or these sweet things. They are probably equal. I love to eat them and I love to make them. And I love to search out bakeries with outstanding cupcakes. So far, I have not found anything to top a Sprinkles confection. I don't know if you have one of these cupcake-only bakeries in your area ( it's a national chain ), but if you do and you have not been, go NOW!  I have tried all the flavors (including the special holiday ones) and have yet to be disappointed. Tomorrow the Cinco flavor (Belgian dark chocolate cake w/ bittersweet and Mexican cinnamon frosting  - in honor of Cinco de Mayo) will be available and I already have plans to stop by and get one. :)

After that, I'd say that Hey Cupcake! in Austin is another top fav.

 
Can't beat the awesome Airstream trailer and the Michael Jackson cupcake is very tasty. I had to get that one because I have actually seen MJ up close and personal (another story - stayed in the same hotel in London, on the same floor, down the same hallway... very interesting to say the least) and I wondered how on earth you could name such a wonderful thing like a cupcake after such an interesting ( I'm being nice here ) person? But despite it's name, I was very pleased! I think I have tried 3 other flavors and all were good. They even have vegan cupcakes, which I plan to taste next time I'm down that way.

Anyway, I am getting sidetracked here... All this to say, I was in a cupcake mood last night and decided to try yet another recipe ( the one in the top photo ). They are supposed to be red velvet, but as you can see, I did not have quite enough red coloring to achieve the desired effect. They also turned out drier than I expected despite the underbaking, and the cream cheese frosting was a tad more runny than I prefer. Other than that, they were easy to make and a tasty way to end the day! :0)
